The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has expanded the recall of Spice Kingdom brand dried Egyptian Basil products because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.
The latest recall includes Spice Kingdom brand dried Egyptian Basil sold from 31 May 2012 to 15 August 2012 at various locations in Quebec.
The earlier recall included Spice Kingdom brand BASIL EGYPTIAN, 30M, Whole, Fancy, bearing Lot No. 4685/E, which was sold in bulk 25 kg (55 lbs) bags to cash & carry outlets, restaurants, bakeries and food service establishments in Quebec, Ontario and Manitoba.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.
Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with this bacteria may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, salmonellosis may cause serious and sometimes deadly infections.
