The cost of civil construction in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, increased 1.71 percent month-over-month in May, according to the state’s civil construction union SindusCon-SP.

The basic unit cost of civil construction or CUB in Portuguese is the official index that reflects the variation of the sector’s costs.

In May, costs with workforce rose 2.16 percent, while costs of civil construction materials increased about 0.97 percent, month-on-month. Wages for engineers were 2.85 percent up in the period. The average cost of these three items resulted in the CUB index.

Eduardo Zaidan, economy vice-president at SindusCon-SP said the “costs of workforce rose as a result of wage readjustments that were defined in conventions and signed by unions from Sao Paulo city and from other cities.”

In 2014, the Sao Paulo state CUB accumulates a 2.23 percent increase. Within the last twelve months, the increase reaches 4.62 percent.
